Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, has been temporarily shut down following the killing of a female student in the institution by a mob.
Naija News had reported earlier that a lady was beaten and burnt alive on Thursday for allegedly insulting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)
The girl who was identified as Debo (believed to be short form of Deborah), was heard in a separate voice note sent to our correspondent lamenting a post shared by her Muslim course mates on their departmental WhatsApp group.
She called out the colleagues for not maintaining decorum in the group by posting religious media files instead of educational materials as to what the group was created for.
A male course mate, believed to be a Muslim immediately tackled her.
Not long after their argument on the messaging app, a mob reportedly visited the lady’s hostel, invited her out and lynched her to death.
The development has since stirred palpable tensions in the institution.
Reacting to the incident, the school management in a terse statement, announced the immediate shutting down of the institution to avoid further damages.
The statement reads:
“Following today’s early morning students rampage in the college, the college management has resolved to close down the college indefinitely with immediate effect.
“Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the college campus immediately,” the management added.
